Spiritual Significance
The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is not merely a ritual — it is a living tradition that connects the present to the Vedic age. Performed every evening at sunset, this ceremony thanks Maa Ganga for sustaining life and civilisation along her banks. It is believed that witnessing the aarti and offering a deepak (lamp) to the Ganga washes away sins and brings peace to the soul. The synchronised movements of the pandits, the resonance of the conch shells, and the flickering of a thousand lamps create an atmosphere of transcendent devotion.

Devotee Experiences
“I was apprehensive about visiting North India temples as a South Indian, but the experience was wonderfully inclusive. The guide spoke English fluently, the pandit explained every step in a way I could understand, and the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh was something I will never forget. Bharat is truly one.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is performed every single evening throughout the year, regardless of weather or festivals. It has not been interrupted for thousands of years.
The timing varies by season — it begins at sunset. In winter (November-February), it starts around 6:00 PM. In summer (March-June), it begins around 7:00 PM. We recommend arriving 30 minutes early for seating.
Both offer unique perspectives. The ghat seating places you close to the pandits, where you can feel the heat of the lamps and hear the mantras clearly. The boat offers a panoramic view of the entire ghat lit up — especially breathtaking for photography.
